IT Strategy and Consulting

Most small business IT spending is reactive. Something breaks, something gets bought, and three years later nobody can explain how the environment ended up this way. Strategy means deciding where you are going before you spend the money.

What we do

Independent technical advice

We are not a reseller working to a vendor quota. Sometimes the right recommendation is to keep what you have.

Technology Roadmap

A three-year view of what needs replacing, upgrading, or retiring, with the cost attached to each. Hardware failure stops being an emergency once it is a line in next year's budget.

Budget Planning

Realistic IT budgets covering capital, licensing, and support. Most small businesses underestimate recurring software costs and are then surprised annually by the same renewal.

Vendor Selection

Independent evaluation of software and hardware options against your actual requirements. We have no referral arrangements distorting the recommendation.

Architecture Review

A technical assessment of how your environment is built and where it will break as you grow. Usually the constraint is something nobody has looked at in years.

M&A Technical Due Diligence

Acquiring a company means acquiring its technical debt and its security posture. We assess what you are actually buying before it becomes your problem.

Compliance Readiness

Practical preparation for the requirements you face, whether that is cyber insurance questionnaires, customer security reviews, or a sector framework.

How a consulting engagement works

Scoped, time-boxed, and ending in a document you can act on.

Discovery

Understanding your business first, then your technology. Technology decisions that ignore how the business actually runs are the ones that get reversed.

Analysis

Current state assessed against where you are heading, with gaps, risks, and constraints identified and ranked.

Recommendations

A written roadmap with priorities, costs, and sequencing. Yours to execute with us, with someone else, or internally.

Need a second opinion?

Whether you are evaluating a major purchase, questioning your current provider, or planning for growth, an independent technical read is worth having.

FAQ

Consulting questions we get asked

No. Consulting engagements are standalone and many clients use us only for this. You get a written roadmap you are free to execute however you like, including internally or with your existing provider.

We will tell you what we find, whether that is flattering to them or not. Sometimes the honest answer is that your provider is doing solid work and the frustration is a communication problem rather than a technical one. We would rather say that than manufacture a reason to displace them.

A vendor assessment is a sales process, and the conclusion is decided before it starts. We have no product to sell you and no referral fees, so when the recommendation is to keep what you have, that is what the document says.

It depends on scope. A focused architecture review is a different exercise from a full roadmap with budget modeling. We scope and quote in writing before starting, so there are no open-ended hourly arrangements.

Yes, and it is one of the more common requests. A few hours spent evaluating a significant software or infrastructure purchase against your actual requirements regularly prevents a six-figure decision that does not fit.
